BFS Flute Ensemble Play Day - Tempest Flute Trio

2nd June 2013, Prior's Hall, Winchester Cathedral

The day will be led by the extremely talented Tempest Flute Trio who have recently won the Royal Overseas League Competition. Tempest is an exciting flute trio founded at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Helen Wilson, Holly Melia and Sarah Bennett who have studied together for years, first at Chetham's School of Music and now at the RNCM, all originally come from Yorkshire. The trio covers a wide spectrum of music including new works and their own arrangements. As winners of the Royal Overseas League Chamber Music Competition 2013, Tempest will be performing at venues including the Queen Elizabeth Hall this year. They have also won the RNCM Contemporary Music Award 2012, the RNCM Ensemble of the Year Competition 2011, the RNCM Woodwind Chamber Music Competition and Trevor Wye Prize 2011. After auditions, they have been selected to be artists for the Park Lane Group Concert Series 2013 and the Manchester Midday Concert Society 2013/14. In 2011 Tempest won the Nonclassical "Battle of the Bands" competition resulting in an album deal on the Nonclassical records label. Since then Tempest has been working on the album with Gabriel Prokofiev which will feature several new commissions. Players of Grade 1 standard and above are encouraged to take part in the day which will consist of ensemble playing, workshops on flute technique and individual masterclasses. Applications to play in an individual masterclass must be sent to in advance with details of the piece to be played. The workshops will conclude at 4.30pm and collection is also from the Prior's Hall.

Places are limited so early booking is advisable.

Tickets for the workshop also gain entry into the afternoon concert which will take place at 5.30pm in the Discovery Centre Performance Hall. The concert will include a performance from Tempest, along with performances by Flautissimo and players from the day and will conclude at 7.30pm.
