Saxophone Weekend - Rob Buckland

Rob Buckland, Professor of Saxophone at the RNCM, is internationally acclaimed as one of the most distinctive and versatile saxophonists of his generation. Appearing as a concerto and recital soloist Rob performs throughout the UK, Europe and Japan. Uniquely in demand as both a classical soloist and jazz artist, Rob also regularly works with groups as diverse as The Apollo Sax Quartet, Sax Assault, the Michael Nyman Band, the John Wilson Orchestra, Keith Nichol's various early jazz projects and can regularly be heard performing on Film and TV soundtracks. In recent years, Rob has been heard performing in concert with a variety of artists such as Elvis Costello, Wayne Shorter, the BBC Big Band and the Wombats.

On 9 and 10 October 2010 Rob will be visiting Bath to run an exciting weekend of saxophone fun, including sessions on improvisation, technique, repertoire classes and a massed saxophone ensemble with everyone - so bring your sax! The weekend promises to be very helpful and inspiring for saxophonists of all standards and will cost £25 per day. Players between Grade 3 and Grade 5 standard are invited to come along on Saturday 9 October and players Grade 6 and above on Sunday 10 October.

On Saturday 9 October Rob will be performing at the Salvation Army Citadel, Green Park Road, Bath with pianist Tim Carey. This will be an evening to remember with melodic, approachable, engaging and committed music with a real honesty and integrity, from two of the UK's top performers. Rob has received international acclaim, with reviews like "Breathtaking virtuosity and energy. Each new piece leapt sparkling off the page and left the audience spellbound. From the softest whisper to a lion's roar, Rob's range of colours and sounds has to be heard to be believed!" Tickets are £10, or £5 if bought in conjunction with a day ticket.

John Packer Ltd are supporting the weekend and will be visiting with an array of instruments, sheet music and accessories to try out, as well as music (including Rob's compositions which are on the ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall syllabuses) for you to browse. The shop will be open from 11am - 4pm on Sunday.
