Saxophone Weekend - Rob Buckland

Rob Buckland, Professor of Saxophone at the RNCM, is internationally acclaimed as one of the most distinctive and versatile saxophonists of his generation. Appearing as a concerto and recital soloist Rob performs throughout the UK, Europe and Japan. Uniquely in demand as both a classical soloist and jazz artist, Rob also regularly works with The Apollo Sax Quartet, Sax Assault, the John Wilson Orchestra, Keith Nichol's various early jazz projects and the Apitos Latin Big Band, and can regularly be heard performing on Film and TV soundtracks. In the last year, Rob has been heard performing in concert with artists as diverse as Wayne Shorter, Jon Bon Jovi, Ringo Starr, Kiri Te Kanawa and the Wombats.

On 13 and 14 March 2010 Rob will be visiting Winchester Cathedral to run an exciting weekend of saxophone fun, including sessions on improvisation, technique, repertoire classes and a massed saxophone ensemble with everyone - so bring your sax! The weekend promises to be very helpful and inspiring for saxophonists of all standards and will cost £20 per day. Players between Grade 3 and Grade 5 standard are invited to come along on Saturday 13 March and players Grade 6 and above on Sunday 14 March. On Saturday 13 March Rob will be performing at the United Church, Jewry Street, Winchester with pianist Tim Carey. This will be an evening to remember with melodic, approachable, engaging and committed music with a real honesty and integrity, from two of the UK's top performers. Rob has received international acclaim, with reviews like "Breathtaking virtuosity and energy. Each new piece leapt sparkling off the page and left the audience spellbound.
