Saxophone Workshop - Dave O'Higgins

6th October 2012, Winchester Cathedral

It was another lovely sunny day at the Cathedral and we were surrounded by the Harvest Fayre - farm animals, hog roast, horse and cart rides and morris dancers! Luckily the noise was no match for the group of saxophonists who had assembled to work with Dave O'Higgins for the day. The day began with sax choir after which Dave discussed memorisation techniques. In the afternoon he worked around the piano going through improvisation from beginner to more advanced while small groups played quartets and duets. The day finished with a concert to friends and family.

Some comments from the course have included:

"Dave was very interesting the whole day was fun and would love to do another there if you run another" - Bob Whiley

"Thanks for organising a great sax workshop yesterday. I really enjoyed it and learnt loads. It was a nice venue too" - Workshop participant

"Thank you for a fun day, Sarah. It was great to hear Dave's take on music and saxophones, and interesting to compare his views with other top musos" - Rob Sampson

"I really liked Dave and thought his approach and teaching style was generally great, I really enjoyed sitting round the piano with him while he gave us a few lead lines and then we all had a crack at some improvising." - Bernard Sully

"Another inspirational workshop, hugely enjoyable. Thanks for organising this Sarah; a lot of work always goes into these things and its is very much appreciated." - Madeline Drake
