Ensembles: Saxophony

Saxophony was established in May 2010 after a weekend of saxophone workshops at Winchester Cathedral highlighted the talented saxophonists of Hampshire. Sarah Finch is the Musical Director and driving force behind the group, and guides them through a variety of performances. Highlights include performing Rob Buckland's 'Capricorn' for saxophones and percussion at Turner Sims Southampton, winning the adult ensembles class at the Southampton Music Festival (2011, 2012 and 2017), winning the Osborne Cup at the Gosport Music Festival (2016) and performing live for the Julian Clegg Show on BBC Radio Solent. The group welcomes saxophonists of all ages grade 5 + , and currently comprises of around thirty members playing soprano, soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones. Their repertoire is varied, including contemporary pieces written for saxophone ensemble and arrangements of classical pieces as well as jazz and pop tunes. The group rehearses fortnightly at the Arch in Chandler's Ford on a Sunday from 5.30pm until 7.30pm. Membership is £18 per term and details of all rehearsals and concerts, as well as membership details, can be found at www.saxophony.org.

Saxophony’s next big performance is on 23rd September at Barton Peveril Sixth Form College, Eastleigh. They will be accompanying saxophone virtuosos Rob Buckland and Andy Scott for a fantastic evening of live music. For more details visit the Instrumental Courses page.
