Celebrating Excellence! - May 2013

There are some exciting things happening in Southampton...

Turner Sims shortlisted for a RPS Music Award

On 3rd and 4th March 2012 the Turner Sims embarked on a Musical Alphabet project, during which I took part in 'F for Flute Choir', 'H for Hip Hop' and 'W for Woodwind and X for Xylophone'. As part of the weekend a group from Saxophony performed on Julian Clegg's BBC Radio Solent breakfast show and performed with Rob Buckland at the Turner Sims. It was a fantastic weekend with lots of memorable performances going on around the city and I am delighted the project has been nominated for the annual RPS Music Awards, presented in association with BBC Radio 3, which are the highest recognition for live classical music in the UK. A big Congratulations to Kevin and the other TS staff who made this weekend possible. Turner Sims has also been voted one of the UK's Top Ten Chamber Music venues by Classical Music Magazine and Kevin Appleby was named concert hall manager of the year at the ABO / Rhinegold awards in January - well done!

Saxophony celebrate three years of making music together

Come and join Saxophony at the Irish Club on Sunday 12th May from 4pm as they play some well known jazz and pop songs and generally have a great time!
